The Extended Mind Hypothesis

The idea that we use pieces of our external environment to aid in our cognitive abilities has always been visible yet has remained somewhat ignored as our computational processes were always considered to be circumscribed to those that transpire under skin and skull in the biological brain. Then in 1998 Andy Clark and David Chalmers proposed a radical new form of externalism called the Extended Mind Hypothesis. Referred to as active externalism because of the active role the environment plays in driving cognitive processes it came under attack from a number of angles.

Police Brutality? Police Brutalised…

This is one of our old archived articles from our old site but still very interesting nonetheless… 2007 was a year full of brutality across the world, with plenty of despicable and abhorrent events taking place. Not even those who prevent and protect our societies around the world were to be left immune from the violence, with a sharp increase in the number of police officers being killed in the United States. As of December 30, 2007, 181 officers had been killed in the line of duty with Texas being the most dangerous state for law enforcement registering 22 deaths. There were also a large number of law enforcement officers killed in traffic accidents, and a handful of incidents where more than one officer was killed at the same time, usually by the same assailent.
