So… like… what is forensic psychology?

This has to be my favourite discipline within the forensic field, and one that i am personally very involved with (i am currently working towards my Master of Forensic Psychology degree). But for the ‘newbies’ the role a forensic psychologist actually plays in the real world can be somewhat confusing – partly due to Hollywood’s version of what a forensic psychologist does. Forensic psychologists are classed as scientist-practitioners as they are constantly applying their skills and psychological knowledge to the understanding and functioning of the criminal justice system as a whole.

Anxiety & Panic – Causes & Descriptions

Anxiety disorders are by and large easier to treat than some personality disorders but their affects are no less incapacitating than any other psychological disorder. In this article one will cover off what exactly is an anxiety disorder, the different anxiety disorders that there are including giving a brief description of each, as well as touching on the general causes of such disorders.

Personality Disorder Clusters

According to the DSM-IV-TR (Diagnostic & Statistical Manual, Fourth Edition, Text Revision) personality disorders are described as “enduring patterns of perceiving, relating to, and thinking about the environment and oneself that are exhibited in a wide range of social and personal contexts” and “are inflexible and maladaptive, and cause significant functional impairment or subjective distress”. In this article we will discuss the different personality disorders and the clusters in which they fall.

Website Expansion

For those of you that frequent our site, it will come as no surprise to you that we have expanded the articles we were/are planning to write. We had always planned on running two individual websites – one dedicated to case files and forensics (lifetakers.com) and one dedicated to the psychology of killers and general abnormal psychological disorders (bloodsoaked-memories.com). This has proved harder to do than expected; in saying that, we have decided to merge both websites as we hadn’t even begun adding content to the second, and given the amount of time, effort, money and coding/design involved in ‘re-inventing the wheel’ we have decided to simply alter this website slightly and start adding the content here instead.
